VoIP Telephony Numbers

VoIP or SIP numbers are quite different from landline or mobile numbers because they use your broadband connection to transmit telephone calls rather than using a dedicated BT type phone line.

If you have a good broadband connection you can easily run multiple voip numbers / phones over one broadband connection. This can represent a massive saving for SOHO and small companies when comparing the cost of installing one BT line for each BT telephone, or ISDN circuits. When combined with a Callagenix Switchboard you have all the capabilities of a sophisticated office switchboard or PBX for a fraction of the cost.

Using a Callagenix VoIP number you can call any other Callagenix voip number free of charge regardless of the location. The ability to do this enables companies to deploy home working and flexible working easily and cost effectively without the need to buy expensive communications equipment; just a Voip device and a broadband connection.

In order to use a Voip number you will need to have a Voip deviceeither a Voip / SIP telephone, or a “soft phone” that runs on your computer, or you may have telephone switchboard equipment that can connect directly. In addition some top end mobile phones can also be configured for Voip to take advantage of WiFi.

A Voip telephone looks like a normal telephone but connects to your broadband router rather than a BT socket. Some Voip telephones have dual Voip and BT connections allowing you a backup should you experience problems with your broadband connection.

Soft phones are small applications that run on your computer allowing you to take and make calls using a connected microphone and headphone. Although most soft phones are inexpensive and some free to download, they are competing with other resources on your computer and may cause quality issues but are perfectly acceptable for internal calls, or when travelling.

Just like Skype, callers calling from a standard telephone cannot dial a Voip number directly; they must be used in conjunction with a standard telephone number to allow caller access from outside the Voip world. You can choose from a range of UK and International phone numbers all of which can be routed to Voip / SIP numbers.

When calling out from a Callagenix Voip number you can present your main UK number as the CLI display and take advantage of our outbound rates. See outbound call cost. In addition telephone call recording and archiving can also be set up with one click of the mouse.
